Christmas Sock Knitting – Need some advice!!

This weekend I heard that DC was going to be hit from anywhere between getting a glorified rain showers to 6 inches of snow.

Whatever comes along, I’m prepared to entertain myself with some sock knitting for my favorite girlfriends Chris and Courtney.

Here’s Courtney’s RPM Sock so far:
P1010150

So far, I am quite pleased with it. Courtney’s very much like me in that she’s not the fancy frilly type. Having said that, though, I didn’t want to make her a boring straight stockinette sock so this pattern provides something fun without being over the top. It’s made from Socks that Rock’s Chapman Spring’s meduimweight.

Now here are Chris’ socks

P1010149

This one just leaves me stumped. I initally tried the Uptown Boot Socks from Interweave’s 25 Favorite Socks and the pattern itself wasn’t really showing in this beautiful colorway. (by the way, it’s STR’s Love in Idleness Colorway, meduimweight) So it got frogged <img src=”http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons6/46.gif” alt=”:-

The pattern above is Jenny Townshend’s Cascading Leaves (Ravelry Link). (It’s a free pattern but you have to join her yahoo group in order to get it) It’s got its fair share of cabling but it’s not as apparent as Uptown Boots. Anyway, I just wonder if it looks ok? Is the yarn taking away from the pattern? Is the pattern taking away from the yarn?? I’ve seen some versions of it on Ravelry with very colorful looking yarn and they all look fantastic. I just don’t know about this one though.

What do you think?? please leave comments or message me

Thanks

  1. It’s kind of hard to tell from the photo, but I think it will be pretty. It looks like the yarn is going to have nice wide bands of color, so hopefully the pattern will show up!
Of course it would show up better in solid yarn, but they wouldn’t be as much fun to make 🙂

  2. It’s lovely yarn, maybe a pattern like knitty’s broadripple, or the jaywalker pattern would work off the colors without losing the pattern.
