A Tribute for the Significant Others of Crafty Folks

Ok crafty individuals. Let’s hand it to them.

Them? You ask?

Why the significant others of crafy folks. The people that:

Hug us even if we have string stuck to us from quilting a quilt

Still smile at us right after they step on the 873rd pin you left on the floor of your apartment…barefoot

Offer their thoughts on a yarn just so we can bounce ideas off them. (those uh-huuuuhs I get from Jermaine are quite important! Yeah they don’t sound helpful, they still are to me)

Know not to ask us a question when we’re counting (I’m VERY lucky to have a man in my life that doesn’t find any kind of amusement in saying 3, 8, 11, 29, 4… louder than usual in order to distract me while counting.)

Know to bring something into a yarn store…crossword puzzle..cell phone with games..(and NOT a watch) because they know it’s going to be a long time before Laura leaves said store.

Understand that, yes, we have a lot of patterns, but what’s one more print out gonna do??

Jermaine has been so great and supportive of these crafts I’m involved in. Patient as well. So when he specifically asked for some fingerless gloves, I was more than happy to make him a pair. (He’s the department head of magazines at a bookstore and has to unload shipments so he could really use a pair).

Here’s the final result:

Pattern: MagKnits, September 2005 Urban Necessity Gloves
Yarn(s): Patons Classic Merino Wool. 1 Skein. I love this yarn! It’s so soft yet I feel that it can still stand up to a lot!
Needle(s): Size 8 & 9 Addi Circulars. I made these with the magic loop method. I definitely prefer KnitPicks Options for magic looping because the cable on those needles is a lot more flexible. Size 8s were used for the hand portion and the 9’s were used for the fingers.
Modifications: I had to add more near the knuckle area because J’s hands are pretty wide. He also didn’t want the thumb to be covered and he didn’t particularly need the flap over the gloves.

I know he’ll love them and I was happy to make them for him.

Now, to think of something for my father that’s been dragged to a fair share of yarn shops (crossword puzzle in hand).
